Austin and Mercy Hospital

The redevelopment of the Austin Hospital and relocation of Mercy Hospital for Women from East Melbourne to Heidelberg in the city’s north, was the largest public hospital project of it’s kind in Victoria.

The 100,000-square-metre redevelopment created two new hospitals at the existing Austin site, which is situated opposite Heidelberg train station.

Ontoit’s John Wiles – working as the Project Director for Major Projects Victoria at the time – facilitated complex management processes which enabled the new facilities to be completed on time and budget with minimal disruption to existing health services.

During the process, John was responsible for regular reporting to the chief executive, steering committee and ministerial levels.
